profile
Giovanni Pellone is an industrial designer with over twelve years of professional experience managing and executing projects aimed at the development and manufacturing of consumer products, home accessories and furniture.
Born in Italy, where he studied Industrial Technology and Economics, Giovanni developed a passion for art and design in the United States where he earned degrees from Parsons School of Design (Interior Design) and Pratt Institute (Industrial Design), from which he graduated with highest honors in 1993.
After running for several years a New York design consultancy with partner and graphic designer Bridget Means, he co-founded in 1996 the design-driven manufacturer Benza, of which he was chief designer and creative director for the following nine years.
Taking traditional concerns for form and function as a given, Giovanni’s work becomes a commentary on our daily lives through everyday objects that induce reflection, provoke, seduce, demand interaction, entertain and evoke affection.
His innovative designs, which have earned worldwide recognition and awards, have been featured in prestigious exhibitions such as “Workspheres” (2001, New York, Museum of Modern Art) and “Ten Avant Garde Designers” (2002, Milan, Surface magazine and Romeo Gigli). For over ten years his work has regularly appeared in the world’s most respected design publications, from Interni to Wallpaper.
He has lectured on design at major U.S. universities including Pratt Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design and Purdue University.
In 2007 Giovanni Pellone begun a collaboration with Japanese graphic designer Makiko Takeuchi. Together they offer a unique combination of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural expertise in product design, communication design, packaging design and brand development.
